Supergirl: ALL his powers, none of what makes him interesting. Not in the slightest. (original post : 2023)

ugh, that dialogue just maps out what her problem is.

All his powers, none of his legitimacy.

Some articles want to argue that her having memory of Krypton and dealing with it being gone makes it more interesting than Superman.

Seems desperate, if one difference is what you're going with and that only works IN CONCEPT when you actually do something with that.

I repeat, the concept alone doesn't make her interesting you have to actually DO SOMETHING with it- and not retcon it in 4 years.

Kill her, have her death mean something then bring the bimbo to life anyway to just "exist", that's not doing anything, that's using her as a novelty, which is all she is.

Point being, there's another knockoff with the exact same premise as SupergirlNextDoor, but somehow ended being more interesting than Supergirl even as she's had decades of history on him:

SUPERBOY-PRIME

Dude's entire Universe, not one Planet, his UNIVERSE. was erased like a scent in the wind. Gone forever.

Did he become a by the numbers cheap knockoff sidekick? Hopping from team to team, looking for any ounce of relevance in the shadow of the original article? Writers galore wanting to carve an identity discovery narrative for this same character over & over again because they know she has no identity, so the constant theme is she has to find herself or get out of Supermans shadow because that shadow is why she's relevant in any respect. Eternal inferiority complex.

Nope, thats Kara, not SB-PRIME

Even though being a sidekick is exactly what he wanted, the kid was manipulated, he started trouble, he snapped, and gave the entire DC Universe a run for it's money.

Was imprisoned, beaten, humiliated, killed (a lot), came back with a vengeance again, then lost again.

Then saved everyone, and got his ending. A PERFECT finale for his arc, full circle arc of violence, hate, delusion, then redemption.

My question for years has been: Why couldn't that have been Supergirl?

People have this idea in their head that she's interesting when at best she reads like a self-insert than an interesting person with a stake or belonging anywhere.

kara should've been SB-PRIME in the first place. I would be simping for Kara at that point because her story would've been worth the hype, that's doing something with that pain and anger.

Then Supergirl would be something worth looking at and taken seriously. She becomes a Red Lantern, but ofc that doesn't stick. The more compelling Alt versions of her are not even canon. So what's the point?

So the one thing people attach to to say she's more interesting than Superman- What to ya know ANOTHER Superman did it better, damn near the same origin as her (so she's not unique in the respect that she wasn't a baby when the tragedy happened, so was Prime) and he's canon too. I'm genuinely surprised no one points this out more.

I'm impressed with Tom King's "Up in the Sky" for Supes, and i know he's got a Supergirl run out there "Woman of Tomorrow" (cringe, more coattail riding) Can't even get a tagline of her own.

But i'm going to try the first issue and see what's up. (years later & i'm still fighting to get through issue 1)

I WAS NOT impressed with her Rebirth #1, it was so basic, i almost fell asleep on my keyboard. And the cliffhanger made me bust out laughing like: "I'm supposed to want more of this shit?"

I'm going to "try" (W O M A N of Tomorrow), it's Tom King, so i genuinely hope he does something different for her. (he didn't, she ended up in a cape anyway)

I got spoiled a year back and saw she got a costume change and now looks like a 40 yr old cosplayer from the 30s, and somehow looks worse than before.

"Superwoman", ugh. The reason why Oracle & Red hood works because they're not riding Batman's theme.

They're doing their own shit, i've been saying this for years now. Supergirl doesn't work for me & clearly not in the grand scheme because she has no agency. She needs to break off and lead her own life.

The essence of Kara is she is unnecessary, she is the fat that needs to be cut off.

Superboy-Prime should have been Kara Zor-El-- the alternate Clark from another Earth, not a duplicate Kryptonian in the same fucking universe as Superman trivializing Kal surviving the tragedy at all. I have ZERO clue why people aren't catching that little detail more often.

Think about how contrived her origin is ad infinite:

Unlike evil Kryptonians like Zod who add depth & layers to Krypton's darker elements, like ghosts of the sins of the planet Kal idolizes and honors.

Instead of that narrative hook, Kara's very existence reduces the impact of Kal surviving because she survived too, in most takes, the exact same way.

So why is Jor-El & Lara's sacrifice a big deal, if some other jackoff had the EXACT same idea, oh btw that person just happened to be Jor-El's brother, who just happened to be a Scientist too who just happened to have the exact same idea but for some reason didn't go with Kara or at least send his wife with his daughter if the pod was big enough for a damn teenager but another woman who was no taller than Kara, could not go with her, or at least put them in stasis to save oxygen.

Plot holes, contrivance, FANFIC tier writing, garbage.)

No idea why WB can't get Kara's stiffy out their mouths but refuse to give Starfire or Cassie Cain the light of day, leagues better characters. Make it make sense.

Superman: The Last Family of Krypton

Supes has a little sister in this universe, "Valora-El", instead of being "female Superman" homegirl decides to go into politics, went to Harvard, she serves her years as secretary working for a Congressman; she earns her seat as Congresswoman in the later years.

That's what i mean, by "living her own life", that shit's badass.

Valora-El is how you Supergirl without being a knockoff, and OF COURSE she isn't canon because DC hates me sometimes.

Transformers One has a Very Cringe Girlboss in it... (Response)

"Transformers One has a Very Cringe Girlboss in it...

She checks off all the boxes, including hitting male protags, being better than them and humiliating them in general.

Yes, it's Elita-1, the pink Transformer in the main Team of Protagonists."

Please, tell me, why do so many "men" enjoy these type of characters? Because this trope has started happening more than a Decade ago."

Waaaay more than a decade ago (But props to them for noticing it at all), the moments by itself it can be ignored (in context, she's obnoxious but that's just their dynamic, despite the fact that she comes off as abusive), but this isn't just a one or two time gag In some stupid kids movie I'll never watch again, the issue is it's more than what she says, it's the writing, the overtone & the fact that she says it without challenge or resistance from the people she's talking to, she gets to say it and she walks away with it as if in the right, it's not organic at all, ZERO chemistry between the characters. Very forced, telegraphed, mean, toxic even. But it's okay because the petite little female robot being a jackoff & domineering is supposed to be funny or bold. This is an overarching culture skill issue that's been beaten into people from shows, music, games, movies, comics, everyday life, politics, News etc. slowly and thoroughly. Much deeper lore. And It's not Girlboss (which is just another Infantilization of girls campaign slogan like #Girlpower-- cause notice how men don't need all these nickname slogans to get shit done, society infantilizes women and gives it a catchy zinger to make it look cute and people repeat it like NPCs), it's just bad writing that's very dated to this specific era of cultural incompetence that seems hellbent on enmity and division. # Most men don't enjoy it, they tolerate it because they can't do anything about it. The REAL target is the children, adults have defenses against some propaganda to reject it, children have absolutely zero defenses, they don't know what they're looking at and will internalize it. She even says Orion himself was incompetent at some point and yet again no one challenges her, Orion doesn't even give her a nasty look or anything and at NO point in the movie is her short comings put on display repeatedly so she gets humbled. *She's safe from criticism but she's running her mouth on all cylinders when it comes to the guys.* Orion even takes a shell for her at one point, and my immediate question was: "Why? How are they even friends, are they friends? We see why D16 & Oriion are friends but we never got to see why in Primus' name does Orion even talk to Elita that casually at all." If she became a Prime she'd be the most powerful being in the TF-multiverse no question, just more power stacked on what is otherwise perfection. This is the problem with modern writing, some think female characters with bad attitudes & smart mouths is progressive, bold, strong or quirky and it's just annoying. Because no one would want to be friends with someone like that. (ex. Bakugou) It's very awkward. And the "I'm better than you in every way" gag screamed contrivance. I did NOT see that coming, and I'm not sure why I was surprised given how she treated Orion the entire movie. Zero respect even after he becomes a Prime, no apology, nothing but suggests to be ranked as a Commander after he offers for her to be a Major- I've never seen anything like it. The ego. Just a vain, horrible character. Can't stand her. I like Airachnid, but I can't stand Elita. Every franchise gets infiltrated with this eventually, every single one, the times deem women being unlikable scabs is what a woman should be. Because notice the universal trait of this archtype is ego, but these same women will check a male characters ego while overlooking their own. It's just suffocating how transparent this propaganda is. # Toph & Katara didn't have to tell us anything. They demonstrated it, they proved it, they were flawed, jerks at times, they learned lessons. They weren't better or perfect or just tolerating the flawed antics of the boys, they were grounded & strong as shit in their own class. And they got called out when they were out of line, that si why those girls STILL hold up, they were written as humans, not deified paragons of goodness & all that is right. Which is way better than telling us they're the shit. Men are the enemy or the incompetence, the weakness, or for the women to be empowered the men have to be removed for her to propped up on high. In what timeline would a genuine patriarchy ever allow that kind of disrespect or double standard for so long so OFTEN that it's become the predominant culture to where other countries expect that from you & laugh at it, or emulate it themselves then surprise surprise they're also in decline. Coincidence i'm sure. Matriarchy cosplaying as a patriarhcy. Men, the same people that build the cities, the same people that are supposed to want to deal with women at all to keep birthrates up. Those are the people society wants to antagonize and piss off constantly. That's smart. I can't see that going south ever. **women in actuality are not asking for this, thats the actual tragedy,** women don't sit their basements making up scrabble words like "Mansplain" which only serves to divide & antagonize, making up new words to push men away-- this stuff trickles from up top downward to trend and infect the masses. That's how it works, usually. Movies are just an easier way to do it, because sometimes the trickle effect doesn't always stick. Point being, Elita's attitude is indicative of the times. The industry is providing these narratives & terms on behalf of women, but not for women benefit, hence why in many ways despite the west being so gynocentric, women are still struggling & not exactly in paradise. # Not because of 5 seconds of dialog in one movie, but the cultural attitude behind it, where that energy is coming from, hence how consistent this attitude & overtone has been for decades **When in reality, when men are weak, that hurts women anyway. When women are weak, that holds men back. You can't neglect & abuse one side and expect success for the whole. That's now how that works. That socio-math is way off.** # Which is also part of the punchline of this trope propaganda; Nobody wins. Pure social conditioning, it's disgusting, And so subtle, such a minute part of the film yet it sticks out like a splinter because it's so unnatural. just like this fabled gender war/sex war people think exists. Shackles & contrived nonsense. And again, this isn't injected in just one movie, if it was, this wouldn't be worth a thread or addressing at all. This is a cultural infection. And it won't stop. It's why characters, narratives like this will never stop or go away. The people that own everything you see, won't stop. It's sad. But not hopeless, just watch Transformers Prime and other media that's older & aged better, media you can trust to have their shit together. TF-ONE definitely looked nice, nice gags here & there, I did NOT like the voice acting choices (Alpha Trion's VA was perfect), just a star power marketing gimmick. But it looked nice, and that Prime vs Megatron 1v1 was fire. I'll give it that, it was at it's best when it focused on Orion & "D", thought it read like D's turn was set up fine but his sudden turn to being hostile to Orion felt too rushed, they should've let that cook a little more. Otherwise The Cybertron games still has the better story, Voice acting, & better writing. (Though they could've used more Arcee)

akane shinjo was not a victim, she was a tool ( ignorance is not innocence)

image

Last minute forced kaiju transformation with her breaking down emotionally/ confliction was a poor attempt to emotionally manipulate the audience into thinking she was a victim.

And how cowardly was it to make some ghoulish looking villain archetype in the computer the “real” bad guy instead of committing to Akane being the problem,.

COP OUT.

Ofc the pretty girl was the real victim and the tall, lanky mf is the REAL bad guy. Trash, weak, lame, safe.

image

Akame Ga Kill is mediocre too but i will give it this:

  • They didn’t let the fact that the murderer was cute get in the way of justice. She didn’t get to log out scottfree and move on with her life.
  • That bitch got cut open. Respect.

So nope, she can pose in her bikini all she want, not enough to wipe away all the shit she did, couldn’t stand her or the awkward fanservice/blatant creepy eroticism writers kept forcing on her either.

Don’t care if she’s got glasses on, or if she’s hugging on a body sized pillow, trying to be cute and shit.

Or putting her funky feet in the camera- all the classic, creepy as shit (because someone animated that and said: “YEP”) soft kink baity tricks these studios use to pander to the males/audience- to MANUFACTURE   attachment to a character through sex appeal when they’re too lazy to give her an actual identity or purpose.

not buying it, i’m here for the writing. Not the bait.

Akane really should’ve been the focus, and Gridman was presented as the bad guy through her eyes throughout the Anime. If they wanted to go there and make it actually interesting.

She’s a manipulative little snot, petty, evil and she didn’t suffer enough. Period.

She needed to die, or be written to have an actual redemption arc, fix her goddamn mess.

Not a last minute feels fest after a bunch of soft spoken attempts at character depth through pretty colors, quiet moments, girl x girl bonding and vague presumptions of what the fuck her issue is.

Like her cracked glasses supposedly being a reference to nemesis prime or her “shattered” self?

Lmfao, okay? Put that kind of effort into her character arc instead of “THEMES” surrounding her and then we’re cooking with grease.

And then to find out [SPOILERS]: She’s just some Japanese high schoolgirl IRL, aka first world problems.

Not a disgruntled abuse victim, not a rape victim, not someone being seriously mistreated (or that we see, not told); Something that would reasonably filter as malignant intent if they suddenly had the role of “god” essentially.

Something worth exploring instead of her body, her being a minor btw.

image

The kaiju references were one of the best things about the show, but that had nothing to do with her character.

Point being:

Take away that modern Baby Doll Anime appearance and instead she was looking plain jane like Anan from Turn A Gundam; Or actually ugly.

image

She’d get nowhere near as many people willing to just settle with her walking away from her mess. Or thinking she’s deep lmfao.

Which is where 90% of this leeway is coming from, thirst and sex appeal.

No amount of fanservice & cutesie waifu bait scenes will alleviate her of her actions or paint her as some victim that someone used for their ends-

Even as that is the case, she gets to log out despite still choosing to do what she did? She wouldn’t get that excuse if she were a creepy fat looking dude character with a heart of gold. Fact.

image

Alebit reluctantly, Imma watch SSS-Gridman again at some point anyway for refreshed context, so i’m not just talking out my bum (which i'm not either way because I actually watched the show). Just to observe her character specifically & the writing surrounding her coming to terms with her deeds.

Otherwise, It’s only symbolic that while in her crib, the character always surrounded by literal TRASH-

All i can say to that is: “How appropriate-”
