'Deku vs Shigaraki Alternate Ending | My Hero Academia' | Rough around the edges in pacing, but an improvement.

Objectively this is better & less contrived as an ending, especially without the Avengers Endgame crap, his losing the arms, then Eri magically coming in clutch. AFO going lovecraftian but no one of note (usual) no one dies, thus AFO looks more of a joke.

And in this timeline, AFO is not even involved here, so Shigaraki's agency is left intact, I haven't seen many people here mention that yet.

The immediate rough edges is how quickly Deku concedes to Tenko's proclamation of Deku's limits, it's not somethingMidoriya  would verbally admit given he's believed his delusion of saving everyone his entire life; he wouldn't just submit to that reality that quickly. But the thorn would stick.

If anything, this is why more people of note should've been killed, namely some students from 1A- so Deku's concession to the reality has more weight.

Otherwise he realistically wouldn't admit it verbally to Shigaraki but as it drags on, he'd gradually have to face facts, Tenko's words would sink deeper, and he'd amp up his tactics to "end" Shigaraki to save everyone else. Resolving that he'd become stronger in the future to "save who he can" because strength is ultimately what determines how much one can do & where the limit is.

But even then, that's no guarantee, if Izuku had Supermans power & outmuscled Shigaraki, & took him to prison. That's still not saving his mind. You can't help someone who not only believes they're right, but that their wrong is justified (thus they feel vindicated as fighting for something) & thus is their ideal, their belief. Which is leagues more dangerous than a criminal with a basic need gap (like a sick wife, the fix is the money to get her medicine or Deku organizing him getting financial support, thus no criminal activity is necessary)

For someone like Shigaraki? You can't just erase that resolve because they're crying inside and you told them so, that's WHY they believe in their ideals in the first place.

That's like accusing a flame for burning something, because fire as a state of energy burns matter. Pointing out that fire burns is not going to put the fire out when that's essentially what it does.

The caveat is: a flame doesn't choose, a person can, but Shigaraki proverbially as an entity is essentially the culmination of trauma into a force of nature, like a flame.

The willingness to find one's actions a problem in the first place is the first step, even the best therapist can't get anywhere if the subject doesn't want to make progress.

Or sees progress as regression from what they perceive as "evolution" or a state of themselves as beyond the average person. These are all gray areas the manga pretends doesn't exist while trying to set a precedent of "saving someone" beyond punching them out (which was 99% of the story anyway, so not only idealistic, unrealistic but MHA is also massively hypocritical. Given his final assault on Shigaraki was a flashy punch anyway.)

This is the issue with making Shigaraki as complex as Horikoshi chose to write him.

But this way, as the video presents the two speaking in an astral plane, Izuku seems more honest & visually it's more digestible to the reader and viewer for Deku to basically 'spell  it out' for lack of a better expression. But narratively it lands harder if he had to admit to himself after denying his own limit even existing.

And I personally think Deku should've gotten roughed up a lot more before the final (instant win button) punch, but that's a fight choreography preference than something that holds the sequence back.

Excellent artwork too, those evasion maneuver panels look good. 2:50 And thank op for not having Izuku call out every single move & minute attack he executes. It gives the his callouts more weight. Even little things like are improvements on the original even if OP didn't realize it.

Overall,  no need to pre-emptively save face by saying it's not better than the original.

I can say for certain, what you did is better than the original ending.

It's not disrespect to admit KH laid the groundwork,  but you improved it best you could within reason and it objectively an improvement. If OP wants to stay in their lane & not state it's better, fine, good on them. At minimum it's an "improvement" but as a third party myself? Rough around the edges, but compared to the canon? It's better. ✅Deku grew tf up, not by abandoning someone, but realizing his ideals are not the arbiter or everyone else's beliefs.

Deku, A True Hero | Cinematic Short (more justice done here than the author managed)

More Justice to this supposed arc than Horikoshi or Bones EVER did.

And the crazy part is while class 1A we're at school sitting on their thumbs, our boy was out here putting in work actually saving lives, which is what truly shows how fraudulent that school in the entire system is.

He should have never went back in the first place. because if he never left the school, the people he saved BECAUSE he left, would have died.

Holed up in that school accomplishes nothing, you can be independent and take care of yourself--- the narrative needed to ignore that and make Deku into a dependent blob with zero agency just to drag him back to that school. Been said it, will KEEP saying it.

Idgaf, but on a positive note, this video is exactly my point & kudos to the artist(s). That Spider-Man easter egg is appreciated.

My Hero Academia Final Season Is Garbage

agreed, it didn't even deserve to get past 4 season at the latest. I am genuinely astounded it somehow made it to a final. For what it was worth, it was a ride. Definitely serves a purpose for aspiring writers on how to tap into aesthetic success & designs (which Horikoshi excelled in) but also serves as an example of how to write, and how not to characterize.

So it wasn't pointless, it serves a multi-function, both good & bad, but a great story? It was not. Good? Hardly.

It simply existed.

Why Thanos (IW) works and All For One doesn’t *2025

Thanos works better than All For One because simply: Thanos had a code, he had restraint.

Why does this matter? Because people surviving him made sense, he’s easily older than All For One, more genocidal, but he is not as psychotic as All For One is, AFO was cartoonishly evil.

A mature villain with a code, one who “respects” his enemies’ resistance, and even when agitated & or loses his temper, he still doesn’t go out of his way to murk someone unprovoked and the movie began with him killing & torturing people, yet in his own bizarre way, it was for a reason.

example: he won’t sadistically kill someone unless personally slighted or disrespected. Especially someone who’s failed him multiple times. (Loki)

That comet shower could’ve killed someone, so could that black hole he yeeted at Strange. The IW cast had plot armor too, yet when he had them at his mercy after the adrenaline died down, he was leveled out. He stayed his hand.

They got to live because he allowed it.

AFO? Was blue-balled, there’s a difference between allowance & mercy and being thwarted, cockblocked by NPC’s that’s not in the same league.

AFO shows no mercy, it’s not even in his character to do so, that’s why it doesn’t work.

AFO reminded me of a demonic Vampire Count for the longest time, that’s how eerie he is and you’re telling me he failed to kill Jiro of all people? Lmfao.

Thanos’ sparing those he knows isn’t a threat on Earth, even him choosing to leave Titan vs ending Quill after getting the time stone, he chose to leave even though Quill shot him and pistol whipped him in the goddamn face before.

Peter’s fire & willingness to oblige Gamora’s request back on Knowhere, Thanos verabally said “I like him”, and let that man live, likely on that fact and the fact that they both cared for Gamora. It makes sense.

That is why Infinity War isn’t ruined by as many contrivances like My Hero Academia final arc’s plot armor fest. (tho it has plenty of it’s own)

I shit you not- All For One had a chic in his grasp, to take her quirk and just crush her throat afterwards:

But because there were like a bunch of heroes (aka Gov. Military Police) watching, he had witnesses there to scare the shit out of, killing her would’ve been an easy vehicle to amp up the stakes.

Like Madara did in that desert fight scene with him vs the ninja alliance.

She wasn’t a 1A student, just some random nobody but even SHE was coddled by Horikoshi. Immediately saved by Hawks.

KH refused to let AFO cook, every step of the way. Even the meaningless randoms had the protective hand of God hovering over them.

why even make AFO that strong and that evil if he can’t prove that shit in practice beside just being an asshole with the CrAAA_aaazy evil faces he makes.

Jiro, Tokoyami, Hawks, survives AFO, (Endeavor surviving makes sense, he’s a beast but even then, all he is is a pyrokinetic, that’s not in the same league as AFO realistically) and even random NPC’s are surviving this guy. (the gif with the hero chic is from Season 7 e12)

Nick Jr. level writing and that’s an insult to Nick, because all I know is one of Avatar The Last Airbender’s most significant plot threads was a goddamn ethnic-cleansing to prevent the coming of their world’s iteration of a god, a genocide.

As the years go by, and people get the Horkoshi-”sensei” boner out their mouths & magically figure out that My Hero was ALWAYS garbage after crying “hater hater” or “I have faith in horikoshi sensei” for 10 years —

Don’t forget how it all started:

It was a silly ass, fun, contrivance driven, goofy story about how a kid with no quirk actually had the best quirk: “Luck”

Bro was so blessed, Jesus asked for Izuku’s luck stat to be nerfed.

Meaningless school festivals, exams, training camps, field trips, with the occasional edgy villains but then back to our regular broadcasted “ACADEMIA” that’s how it started.

If it stayed kiddy & stupid (minus the pedo bait treatment of the girls) I wouldn’t be on MHA’s ass this much, or as much.

Waaaaaay more than luck Jiro. You little snot.

So why — WHY even turn MHA into a serious tone narrative, a gritty type of show, add more characters, making more work for yourself.

A story that shows blood but rarely spills it (unless it’s a randoms randoms random like “Native” or a scumbag like Midnight who never should’ve existed because her death meant less than nothing) but you have beings that can level cities. Why go there, when you can’t deliver on that tone.

Horikoshi wanted the escalation of a seinen while adhering to the goofy writing of a 1 week old saturday morning cartoon.

Thanos was holding back and still won —

while BRO AFO was in his prime via rewind

& still couldn’t get those people out his face. He knew his time limit, he didn’t have the crutch Thanos had (the gauntlet) AFO was the damn gauntlet and still didn’t cook, not even with Yagi, couldn’t even kill an oldass, handicapped, quirkless that he has a personal hatred for.

Fail fail fail fail fail. THIS IS our final boss?!

He just didn’t fly over the clouds to get to Shigaraki, just allowed himself to get bullied. Lmfao.

Blasts a damn mountain buster cannon at Tokoyami & Jiro and all they walk away with is some bruises & a lost ear lobe. Not even severe burns, but an ear lobe is gone.

As much as I love the meme of it looking back on it year after year, it’s still —

Unbelievable how hoe’d All For One was.

And after that brilliant buildup from Season 1–3, the shadows, the menace, the pulled strings, his authority, and this is how he’s treated in the end.

I’m not saying Endgame was any better, most of Endgame was also trash in contrivances but Horikoshi had the reigns here, he had a time deadline, yes — but he & only he chose to do that to old boy after all that good buildup.

Cause remember even Movie 1 ‘Two Heroes’ hyped up All For One possessing that Temu Magneto, literally possessing him like a ghost.

The movie was gassing up this dude’s appearance in Season 3, thats the rep he had.

And that’s how he went out. Twice. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I ain’t saying give him a happy end or a respectable one but if was gonna be that evil & cook a scheme that delicious, let my man’s finish his plate, all I’m sayin.

Otherwise Endgame Thanos lacks for the exact same reasons AFO does.

My Hero Academia Season 4 Episode 11 Reaction Mashup | 僕のヒーローアカデミア

"im so afraid of what will happen" 17:10 bro forgot he forgot he was watching mha & actually got afraid for the well being of the character, can you imagine? lol

not just any forgetfulness, he forgot he forgot that Jeanist survived AFO. Ragdoll survived AFO. That random nobody woman in Kamino, etc. AFO couldn't cook to save his life even back then. Not fear of the main villain, but the sloppy seconds Overhaul.

Now sit there & imagine, instead of him getting his hands taken without a fight, imagine how we got robbed AFO vs Overhaul- which is a leagues better way to both: *take Overhaul off the board and amp up AFO's threat level.

My Smiles Academia "You're Next" is just reskinned Hassaikai raid

    • victimized female character blob with broken quirk booster power
    • main bad guy who's some sort of exile, usurper or rogue of a crime family, with shit motivations
    • Main bad guy with godtier power loses anyway (pretty much MHA as a whole)
    • Ends with a fuckin body-horror esque kaiju form as a final boss.
    • Deku blitzes the SHIT, and I mean- knocks the soul out of the dude, and somehow he's not turned into liquid flesh
    • Deku chances across the girl by sheer freaking coincidence- just like he did Eri, just like he did Gentle, just like he did All Might which started his entire career. Bro just fumbles into everything. Deku birth quirk is "Lucky Star"

Part of the issue with Deku is he has no repeat villain rivals with personal nemesis ties to him, ie. the heroes win too damn much. I'm not saying (obviously) U.A. should've been flattened but at what point does being able to control matter itself at will, become an actual threat?

At what point does being a 100+ year old sociopath villain with multiple quirks become a life threatening force to the point where someone gets killed. (Laughs in Jiro)

This movie was almost entirely predictable, it begins pretty promising with Deku's more comfortable use of OFA, the mystery of Dark Might.

But it's just a fusion of World Mission & Season 4.

Plot armor out the ass, same ol shit, villains catch no bodies, there's set up for fake tension with Dark Mights palace charging towards the school, but no stakes cause there's no chance the villains will win and we know that.

And thus no threat level or presence here for the baddies. Saturday morning cartoon level shit.

The movie should've been a Vigilante Deku filler movie (that's what I thought this was going to be yeeeears ago when this was just rumor), showing us exactly what Deku was doing the entire time. Exploring him ACTUALLY discovering and training with the other quirks. And him facing the underbelly of Japan.

I’ll give it this much, the 1A trio has guts. They can take it & dish it out. But it doesn’t amount to much because you can clearly see what the villains are capable of, you know they can kill, but they just don’t. These kids are just damage sponges, nothing the villain does matters.

And these fights play out the same way, every time:

    • Fight starts
    • the heroes pour everything they got
    • the villain is too op (until they suddenly aren't) and so the heroes get battered
    • they're exhausted
    • they get back up
    • they either get a powerup or a second wind
    • they win, the villain all of a sudden can't compete (but the animation is S-tier) but the fight is ass.
    • the end

My Hero Choreography overall is garbage in terms of a "fight" but making superpowers look cool, the movies did it best,

And to add to that: the animation team went off the rails, like holy shit they snapped on this movie, which isn't a statement for the movie being good but the animation team did their job. They might've been on shrooms when they animated this & United States of World Smash sequence.

I didn't think the animation could go harder after the 2nd film.Like who tf thinks this shit up , what is even happening, is he in his own pocket dimension?! And where was all this in Final arc?!

I didn't think the animation could go harder after the 2nd film.

Shame too, I was more excited for this than Superman 25', & that's coming from ME, My Hero was prioritized over a SUPERMAN movie for me. That's the hype I had for this personally, that's the whack part.

I waited for MONTHS, a year+ to MONTHS To watch this movie, and knowing the kind of writing My Hero does, I intentionally had low expectations just so I could enjoy this and even with that in place, this was a chore to get through, just like Superman 2025.

For both movies, by the end, I was exhausted. And verbally said something along the lines of "Finally", "Glad that shit's over" or simply-- "Never again"

For this, it was mainly because of how boring Deku is. He gets cooler with the powers but he's the same little angel. I'm not expecting a whole different dude, that's a rewrite, not development, but he genuinely does not change, that's the problem.

By the 51-57 min mark, Deku's self-righteous sermon session scene (when everyone was unconscious in dreamland in the town square), Is when I was beyond done.

I was so checked out, severely disappointed.

Heroes Rising (aka prototype "Final War arc") is still the best of the 4, and after watching that recently, even that had more problems than expected that I thought I remembered.

Even the ending was insane, the one consequence that happened to Anna, even that was undone, I shit you not. Truly nothing matters, everything is just honky dory.

And it wouldn't be an issue, if the story didn't take itself so damn seriously as if there were any stakes lmfao.
Stakes are a joke in this universe, it's insane. Out of all of the movies, the 4th has the most dry, uninspired plot, it drags horribly even before the half-way mark.

51 minutes is not even halfway through the movie, part of the problem is it's too damn long, not enough going on, the people the story centers around are not interesting & if it not that much longer than the others being an issue, then the boring ass plot makes it sandbag.

A world of super powered people, some of them damn near demi-gods but everything just almost always works out.

Great gifs in this movie, the best part about it is what it could've been, which is My Hero's legacy in a nutshell.

Just  watch Heroes rising (MHA movie 2) or World Heroes Mission.

3rd movie is not much better either & the first once should've been about Young Might becoming All Might (obviously).

Dark Might is more entertaining than Flect but Anna as a plot device is just insulting, she has no presence, she's literally treated like an object.

Most basic design, basic personality (not much of a personality either), she's stale toast.

This movie trying not to be Season 4 while clearly copying Hassaikai raid.

The trailers were the first red flag for me, and I still was rooting for this movie.

But afterwards? Too repetitive. Deku doesn't achieve anything, things just happen to him or around him and he reacts.

Not proactive enough, the villains are proactive, they take initiative, they have grounded motivations, almost want them to win, even if just a little bit.

The first & last 15 minutes was the best parts.

My Hero Academia tards #102: Nobody gets the ending (the core of the ending isn't the problem)

being a teacher is one of the most important roles in any infrastructure. It's why being a parent is so important. The issue isn't that, the issue is he wouldn't have achieved anything if it weren't for him just by miracle meeting Yagi who just happened to be the #1 hero who just happened to have a transferable quirk that just happened to be a compilation type that just happened to be connected to the main villain who just happened to be connected to Tomura. Deku achieved nothing before he met All Might, thus he needed a plot contrivance to get anything done on his own. That's the issue. He was given everything, and achieved nothing. Him training with the power is him making the most out of a handicap, a hand-out, a mod that no one else had. Melissa had no powers, she made it work & used her mind to contribute, so did her Father. Melissa should've been the mc. He didn't achieve his dream because he seized it, he didn't achieve it because it was not of his own ability. If he was already in U.A and was failing, then met All Might who noticed he was quirkless, that's different but AT LEAST he managed to get in the damn school on his own. No he couldn't even do the entrance exams on his own. He had his hand held the entire way. Even when he went rogue, the adults were keeping tabs on him via tracking chip in his phone. Always shadowing him, the kid couldn't DO ANYTHING on his own. Not even shower or feed himself properly. He was pathetic. He needed God to hand him the keys to success in the beginning and apparently the end as well seeing how Yagi (the one who's always handing him free shit) gives him basically a super exo-skeleton. Which is probably what should've went down in the first place back in 2014 The teacher bit is least of the problems, way to miss the point which is Horikoshi missed/& defeated his own point. Deku doesn't vigilante by night and a teacher by day, but yet again handed more power. Deku is a spoiled man-child. He has zero drive, he was too passive. Too damn NPC to be the main character. He doesn't do shit unless he's activated by a quest prompt.

"The End of an Era That Created The Current Anime Community"- My Hero was an aestheric with no substance, a phase, not an era.

 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GnFzg9c7O30

It was garbage, what one loves is moments in the product, not the product being the hallmark itself because its actually good.

Its an end of an aesthetic, not an era. Mecha as a whole is an era, a genre is an era. Shonen itself is an era, 1 corny af show is a phase at best.

Kamino arc is when it fell off its stakes mainly because thats when AFO was shelved, then the movie immediately during S3 gives us DollarTree AFO in Nine, then Chisaki.

The villains were colorful but came & went, barely an inconvenience when gone, Deku had no rivals, no real threats. No drive to get stronger, he was too comfortable. He & Shigaraki had no recurring dynamic, none.

you mention My Villain, yet what came outta that besides setup for no payoff? Even you had to admit it was booty.

Shigaraki ran nothing, we didnt get to see him build no empire like a Peaky Blinders vibe. Immediately after that event could even breathe, Jaku Raid starts.

300+ characters KH couldnt let go of but had to shovw them all into frame because all his babies are special snowflakes.

Zero breathing room, & I dont blame Jumps deadlines just yet for that cause KH was choking even earlier.

Sports Festival was about getting scouted right (its revealed even this was pointless), U.A apparently didnt give a shit about USJ event putting students in danger & thought a festival was the appropriate response to essentially a terror attack on a school field trip, thus putting civilians & other Hero courses in danger and the parents got no vote in the matter.

They didnt even think to omit Class 1A from the festival but keep the event intact, just keep the target class out of it just for precaution, nope nothing.

Eraser heads best retort to Jiro is basically 'we wont be intimidated', thanks EraserBrain.

And again, parents had no say.

*NICE ONE Horikoshi, anything for that TournaArc. And you know why this is a problem now? Because MHA didnt stay goofy, kiddy, and ACADEMIA.

it made the mistake of getting gritty, more contrived and serious*

When you turn your storys tone more serious, the standard of writing raises as well. And if you cant keep up with tracking the continuity consequences then you shouldnt be making serious stories.

Cause if it was just a stupid Saturday morning Superhero school anime that didnt get serious, the sports festival plothole wouldnt matter. Because you can overlook it.

When you raise stakes, you raise the standard. And Horikoshi wasnt ready.

I could go harder , so much to obliterate about this show along with the few good bits.

Whatever you could try to praise about it, that praise will likely possess or be attached to a problem that conflicts with it. Not because stories inevitably do that, no but because THIS ONE does.

MHA was bent from day 1 because the writer was inexperienced as most tend to be- but the difference is he had no writing talent to begin with. And likely had no plan hence why he kept making changes reliant on what fan feedback, vs having a plan & better help.

KH needed better / HELP.

The fight & animation doesnt matter at this point, the story was crap, the ending will likely be the same because more important changes that needed to happen were NOT made, so its far too late now. The best ending in 2020 era anime history is not going to fix 10+years of mid, or rectify the other 95% of wasted potential and time wasted.

The anime is a re-run of the book, Boku no Hero Academia ended already. The "era", the phase ended already.

*Animation is irrelevant to the story IF the story any good, if the colors gotta be pretty to stick the landing, you basically said everything that needed to be said about the thing yer talking about.* ♿🚮

Thats what needs to carry, writing, not background art. Lmfao, this is why Mangaka keep fucking up endings & arcs, yall prioritize the wrong shit over & over and wonder why you get the same exact outcome ad infinite.

And yes, OP is correct. I dont doubt MHA would've gotten a foothold without the wests clout, My Hero woulda been popular regardless but the MCU phase 3 specifically is why My Hero blew up so quickly, it debut during the golden years of superhero hype.

However the fatigue is not what you think it is, its ppl being tired of what Superhero movies turned into, not fatigued of superheroes themselves.

Superheroes are modern pagan gods, ideals, paragons, there will never be a fatigue of "the superman" or ubermensche  as a concept. Thats like Americans getting Football fatigue, HA! Dont hold yer breath.

My Hero took off because Horikoshi (like Snyder) knows aesthetic, it got a following because it's superhumans in cosplay calling themselves "Heroes" in an ANIME, it got movies because the following migrated from Western Superhero clout--

And it took a hit overtime because its a lesser example of how to do a Superhero story, let alone an origin story; always has been.

Overall it was fine, a hot mess, most of the fights are trash, the "development" from the plot to the characters is a joke and the oversaturation of characters is top 3 reasons why the development was nerfed, but it was okay. And someone else said it but BONEs sticking with it this long? They're the real MVPs.

By just the movies (2nd one is best) & the OVAs alone (most of em are dry af, first 2 were solid)  MHA is as much their kid as it is Kohei's at this point. Joint custody.

Issues with My Hero Academia #52: You can’t fix what was always broken

Funny thing is, all most cared about was Ochaku-- and even then it fixed nothing really, he didn't dedicate the chapter to just deku & ochako recapping or connecting. It was the same sterilized bullshit, they work better as a sibling esque/platonic dynamic, not romantic. They get along for sure, but little to no chemistry there. And yes, correct 1000% that when you inch once to the collective over your work, it's no longer yours. Excellently said.

Koichi thinks we should "respect" people's fetishes

 "we oughta respect people's fetishes"

Right, just like you'd respect a tumor-- its not "harming" anyone else sure, but it isn't doing you any favors now is it?

A lot has been said that was stupid from Kohei's take, but that is truly top 3 dumbest & bluntly random as hell lines of dialogue in MHA as a whole. (Horikoshi didn't write MHA:Vigilantes but he might as well have, it's the exact same level of hack & mediocrity)

And its irresponsible, because I'd say the same if it was some parental failure drooling over their computer on a booru site but these 3 are actually assaulting women in-world, and Ko-Kun is just talking to them like they're just regular salarymen too shy to talk to women and he's giving them pointers--- Which actually would be a much better scenario.

Less predatory and creepy. vs Giving alternatives on how to get off on specifically the panties of kids. Enabling mental issues that they need to get fixed, actually. But that warrants respect, cause god forbid ppl judge anything & keep each other in check, maintaining a sane society, lmfao.

The Main character everyone, Koichi the hack. Deku is corny, he's boring, passive mc, he extended a hand Tomura didnt deserve but Deku never pulled no crap like this. Such a damaging few panels, small nothing moments like this that add up over the years & DID NOT age well.

Here I am coming to Vigilantes wanting a break from KH writing quirks, but just like MHA Smash, this author also has a projection problem. These cats really dont understand Superhero comics no more than woke leftists.

Either way someone is projecting some foolishness that doesnt belong in the narrative about Heroes, or whatever their definition of a hero is that week. with Mangaka you really gotta cross your fingers that you get a writer who acts their age & writes worth a damn that'd be half as good as a 2000s Nickelodeon childrens show.

The genre really deserves better than this

How and why did My Hero Academia fall off so fast? (quora) *2021-2024

Vision, talent, timing and Horikoshi’s lack of experience.

To keep this short (lol), Horikoshi’s talent as an artist only got better.

But his writing was & is garbage, I still watch this show every now and then, mainly season 1 & maybe 2. I even checked out some of Season 5. Garbage. My peer whom I watch the show with (a woman) she herself can’t stand the writing decisions, namely Deku’s overly-emotional nature.

KH was just on the par of average when the plot was small scale, the kinks in the craft were minute, less noticeable.

The plot was exactly what it was supposed to be, not some elaborate war drama, but a story about kids in school who want to be Gov. Sponsored Military Police Agents uhhh I mean “Heroes”.

The moment he started trying to writing above his means then things got dumber

and dumber

and dumber

and dumber

and dumber

and dumber

and dumber

and dumber

Aaron Ehasz is a decent writer who is likely NOT as good an artist as Horikoshi, and Kohei Horikoshi is not as good an writer as Aaron Ehasz or even Joe Kelly or Donny Cates.

Just because you are the author, doesn’t mean you know what the fuck you’re doing.

Just because the “theme” was this, because Author-sensei said so, doesn’t mean it’s good. If the vision is true to his vision, but his vision was garbage, then the vision was garbage.

Just because a book, a show is popular doesn’t mean it’s good. It means it’s digestible. Easy to process, it has good iconography which My Hero Academia absolutely DOMINATED in. This franchise had an excellent aesthetic.

Popularity means its talked about, what were people talking about? Writing quality or how it made them feel? How cool it was ? Or it’s nothing like they’ve ever seen before? (lies)

It means it happened,

It means what he wanted to do he did, it doesn’t mean what he/she did— worked or meant anything worth a damn.

Horikoshi needed help, he needed time, and he needed a plan. And a better one.

  • My Hero Academia is a failed storytelling venture (which I called yeeeeeeeeeeears before it ended) that succeeded in numbers. Which means nothing if no one will regard it in 5–10 years, and people started doom posting not long after the manga ended.
  • It made money now, to be forgotten, dropped, taken for granted.
  • Popularity is a measure of how many people will spend to digest garbage/product, it’s not a measure of how good a product is. ie. IRL Fast Food but it’s a visual medium.
  • Which is why everyone tried their best to push back on me & the other few people whenever we pointed out the same exact shit fanboys are complaining about now but only AFTER it ended & now everyone all of a sudden is a critic dropping videos about how My Hero failed. Bunch of no agency having drones.

Because the doomposting now, wasn’t anything close to what ThatAnimeSnob called out.

Sheer incompetence to prioritize characters over plot, he often disrespects his characters as shonen authors tend to do:

(2026) He wouldn’t have done that if she was a male character, and if that’s to be expected because “shonen”, the genre is obsolete. Fix it. Cause that’s a problem. Not “problematic”, fuck that, it’s a PROBLEM, if Avatar The Last Airbender didn’t need to do that in only 3 season. Why does this need to do with 300+ chapters, 4movies, 8 ova, 8 seasons+++ just quantity over quality.

Garbage.

(April 2024) This joker was really pretending like Horikoshi and BONES gave a single shit about the character of Momo for 10 years, you’re asking or hoping they STOP doing what they & the fandom has been doing which is relegating her to a piece of meat- and actually give her something to do?

Hence why the picture THEY chose was a shot of her provocatively posing with her chest being the center focus of the goddamn visual. But you’re asking Horikoshi to do better when you’re EMULATING how many fucks he himself has to give.

They themselves are subconsciously playing into exactly what the problem is lmfao, but at the same time hoping the author does better.

You can’t make this shit up

2023: Japan raises the Age of consent after 100 years because of an influx of sex assault cases again women and children in a society with mega-industry that is carried by dehumanizing women & children.

The biggest resources of anime & manga’s creative process being : Sexualized women & children through predatory lens.

Gee, must be a coincidence.

POV then: people that defended PDF coded anime culture: “You can’t judge it, because that’s their culture”

Now: I- i never said that.

And so, when the author doesn’t give a damn & treats them like meat, zero respect to his own craft. Thus the fandom doesn’t respect them either. Hence the excuses, can’t even blame them entirely when the author doesn’t give a damn either.

  • Like children copying a toxic parent.
  • Plot driven storytelling is often susceptible to more plot contrivances & laziness which is final arc in a nutshell.
  • My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising is just the prototype to Final War Arc, been said this for years.

Horikoshi is, and always will be a better artist than a writer.

Mangaka need to start teaming up with better more qualified people who will give them push back and stop working themselves to death. It’s not even worth vomiting out a mid story with robbed characters just to meet a deadline.

We can make the “comic continuity” memes all day, about how different people clash with canon of other authors on the same character. But those people don’t work themselves to an early grave. Why? Because they have editorial infrastructure, the person drawing isn’t always the person writing it.

That means less burnout, and more jobs for other people.

Do better Japan. Because if one person wrote a shite Superman story ala Horikoshi, a rotation means the next Superman story won’t be written by the same Horikoshi but instead a Joe Kelly.

I watched S1-S2 on a whim back when it first popped off, dropped it, and binged S5 backwards to S1 in 2023, saw the problems then. Painfully clear.

Read up to 355 in 2023, dropped it again after that Jiro “Made my friends cry” bullshit & discovered LEGO Monkie Kid (effortlessly better show, formulaic but a better Shonen.)

I was outside, read that panel, and dropped it. And that same day, I found LG:MK

AFO was being made into a joke, if Jiro could survive him, then the story failed the villain. Zero stakes. I saw it coming from a lightyear away.

I didn’t have to “wait” until the story “was finished” to see a pattern. If garbage is the standard, if garbage is the fandom, then garbage will be the legacy.

Meeting the deadlines at the expense of the best possible story, It wasn’t worth it.

Horikoshi had deadlines to meet than a vision to bring to life.

Or? Likely: He didn’t have a vision or a plan or didnt know what the hell he was doing even if he did have a plan.

It fell off partly because it strayed too far from the “Academia” in My Hero Academia, and sticking too close to it would’ve been boring as shit.

It fell off because the concept wasn’t built to last this last long and stay true to itself.

And when he teased interesting ideas outside the school, he backtracked right back to that school.

He gets bored with School activities, doesn’t know how to keep it interesting in the school itself, then he turns it edgy, fight happens, back to school, then more edgy villain shit.

  • Reads like a formula to keep himself engaged, than tell a good story to the audience.
  • I’m not some platinum writing master, I’m not media literate or whateverthefuck, all I did was pay attention than just consume.

He didn’t know what he wanted to do. He didn’t have the restraint to manage his characters with respect, the female characters were pieces of meat to him and so they’re nothing but pieces of meat to the fandom as a whole. Especially the underage girls.

His plot aka mess, he betrayed his premise in the first three chapters, Deku would’ve accomplished nothing without Quirks and he didn’t get anything done before his miraculous chance meeting All Might. Deku was a golden boy nepo-baby from beginning to end.

“You earned this power, fair and square-” That I’m yet again handing to you.

“You earned this power, fair and square-” as I hand this super suit to you because you’re a special boy.

He didn’t train for months then was surprised with the opportunity for the power, he was promised it as a reward. He was promised the keys to success.

edit: (AUG-5 2024) Finally ended.

why “finally”? Because he, Horikoshi can finally rest.

It’s easy to sit back and say “You’re doing your story wrong sir.”

If you’ve ever tried making continuity; You’ll know making a story+ art+history+lore = is not a cakewalk

There’s no one way to do it, but there’s things you don’t do if you want it to age worth a shit, or mean anything beyond the surface level aesthetic which is all people care about when it has the new car smell.

I can’t tell you how many fucking debates I’ve had with people, including homies, criticizing this story, and they just dont get it until I get serious and start mapping out exactly how Horikoshi-isms work.

Between watching, reading, and editing that requires looking at ALL the footage & episodes, OVA included, discovering all kinds of things of the show good and bad: I’m not a MHA fan, but an unintentional My Hero Scholar at this point, not a brag, trust me, the story ain’t even all that.

I see it as I see it because I’ve seen A LOT of it. More than I wanted to tbh.

Not a fan, but this isnt a story worth hate, its actually a tragedy.

My Hero had semi-decent world building, horrible prioritization, colorful but weaklyy written characters (TOO MANY characters, too soon & at once), awesome artstyle/ I love how much he made this reminiscent of an actual comic book.

The problem is it’s infected with a terminal case of chronic bad writing & SHONEN-titis and chronic Anime-tisms.

That’s how it fell off, Japanese Mangaka had a hand in it & Shonen Jump was the overlord. Garbage writing that was always there since the beginning.

When did it happen? CHP2.

The “fall” specifically? The Moment AFO lost that fight in the Kamino Arc.

No villain could measure up since, including AFO himself.

The stakes dropped. Everything felt sterilized, ya’ll don’t realize how built-up AFO’s arrival was, even the 1st movie was gassing this man up: And he lost. Maybe you cats need to watch Season 2 again.

It’s not like he was pulling strings from behind bars or we got to see him running the prison in luxury or transfer his consciousness to a Nomu or something, or maybe because in reality: He had ties in the Gov. running the Hero Ind. which would be a “holy fuck” moment.

All Might was working for All For One this whole time?

Crowd: “WHAT THE FUCK!?

Could you imagine if AFO was that calculated but no, he was just doing shit.

Think about it:

This guy took on prime all migt & handicapped him. How did he kill no one of note during all this?

in a meta sense all might walked away broken because he fought alone vs everyone actually beating AFO because they fought together- it works as a theme, not as a story because AFO is too strong to lose and not even kill at least 20 people of notice.

If AFO was so old he was senile and actually wanted to lose but lose on a grand stage, thats different it'd be lame but it'd make sense that he wouldn’t literally want to be the villain but he wanted to emulate the attention a super villain gets from being a menace:

  • thus being noticed by everyone & fulfilling that villain role, the role of pushing complete strangers to be their strongest because he was in reality the strongest.

If that was his goal as a narcissist since day 1 vs being a “demon lord” whatever that means, and everyone coming together in the end vs him was his dream, that'd make leagues more sense as to him allowing himself to lose so pathetically as opposed to him actually losing like that because he was that incompetent.

After making him LOOK cooler than he actually was, why would you write a villain as pathetic as the heroes?

I won’t sit here & pretend I saw it coming since Season 2 or something, nah, I was a casual then fell off for a minute.

I didn’t start following this series really until 2023, watched it backwards from Season 5, then read the manga & Chapter 355 was what broke me. I had to stop again.

It was Kamino arc that showed AFO’s belly (keep in mind, Jeanist survived him after getting a hole in his stomach and he couldn’t even kill some random woman in the debris, didn’t kill a nerfed All Might)

Nothing matters.

It fell off years ago, most people only now decide to catch up and smell the shit-soup because they got bored and only when they get bored & their hormone thrill trip fizzles will they finally see reason, or they choose to admit when they think it’s safe to be honest. Which doesn’t work because then it’s not about honesty, you’re likely not going to give the show it’s credit it’s due because you went from one extreme to the next.

This is why being a “fan” isn’t what it used to be.

  • The story fell off regardless if people realized it or not.
  • The people who knew what we were talking about didn’t need your permission for My Hero to be confirmed to be trash, it was always trash regardless of any of us.

Because Horikoshi didn’t have the maturity, nor presumably the life experience (Stan Lee projecting life experience and not FETISHES is why Spider-Man is a staple icon across the globe/ Spiegel and Shuster with Superman) nor the writing experience to make this shit even 2% of what Avatar The Last Airbender was.

Or Teen Titans 2003, the superior My Hero.

Horikoshi created more work for himself when he kept jamming excessive characters (300+), juvenile antics, and an ever escalating plot that did not have to be that elaborate.

He worked against his own best interest, & more importantly as consequence: he worked against the best interest of My Hero Academia. If he kept the main cast to Deku, Iida, Ochako, Bakugou & Todoroki.

  • He would’ve had more time, more panels, more authorship resources to cook to the best version of My Hero and AFTER the work was done fleshing out those five, then in season 2 the others can get more to do
  • Or? Since the manga had Omake’s & the series had like Eight OVA’s, I repeat approximately over 7 Original Video Animations, use that to explore the other students on a deeper level or wait until Season 2 or 3.
  • That’s just common sense. Twenty students? Not one is transferred, or dies & their death brings the class even closer together like a family, no nothing. It’s just everyone CRAMMED into the frame.

It was logistically moronic from the get go.

And now that it’s wrapped up (multiple times) we’ll see who the “fans” are when it gathers dust, and people are already 180-ing, frauds.

Now we’ll see who really gives shit. I a “hater” is still reading, still using early volume artwork as reference, still watching some episodes of that garbage anime.

Why? Because it had potential. I swear my homie (who hates MHA) sometimes asks me “Why?” in the tone of “Why watch that trash.” even if it’s just one episode every 5 months.

Because it could’ve been great, that’s why.

Because it’s not even 1 year old post-end (2024), and already people are switching sides.

When all we had to do was be honest to begin with and stop fighting the people who are fan enough to know the story could have long been better.
