For Kara to go her own way is to retcon the cousin connection or just retcon her entirely from a universe that has a Superman already.
Or turn her into a Superman villain, or turn her into either Supermans daughter (Superman: secret identity) & he steps down, depowers with age, goes missing or dies honorably-- which technically is nepo still, but thats a way more organic torch pass--
than a miracle survivor cousin which trivializes Kal surviving at all (And I STAND by that because it's 100% facts).
And a daughter being trained by Superman, Batman & WW displays she earns the mantle and a superior coming of age story, superior skills.
Vs the cousin just being handed the suit being of family ties, aka nepotism.
Because Jor-El just happened to have a sibling, who just happened to be a scientist too, who just happened to have the same idea, who just happened to send a much older child & not his spouse too-- for some reason. FAN-FIC tier writing.
Or the DCAU route which was unintentionally better because STAS couldn't use Kara Zor-EL legally at the time so they just made her "In Ze" as a work around and that ended up being better anyway.
Kara can NOT go her own way getting by on nepotism. She can NOT go her own way wearing the same costume aesthetic, doing the same thing just with an edgy attitude or that cutesy cali-girl vibe, or the rough girly big sister schtick or the powergirl gimmick. Or whatever Woman of Tomorrow caught itself trying to do.
Just gimmicks, gimmicks, & another stock Kara Zor- El finds herself for the thousandth time filler arc. No substance. No purpose.
She's likeable, but her concept is likeable garbage, her execution is laughable.
I say this on every video on Kara Bore-El Disparu does that I happen to be on because it's true: The movie was doomed to be cheap, not bad, not the worst but weak knees because that reflects the character.
*To improve Supergirl is to rewrite the character entirely, DC & WB refuse to do that, they instead double-down and so--- this will keep happening.*
Not if the film had the guts, but if DC had the guts. But perhaps there's truth in that, because if the film did go that route & did thw work, the comics would likely follow. Either way, the pivot has to start somehow.
She will never represent anything feminist when her namesake & stake is because of who she knows. Not what she's done. And the most significant thing she's ever done, twice was sacrifice herself, and it got undone; trivialized. Both times.
When if that was kept intact, she'd be immortalized, because both sacrifices were actually pretty moving, and that's coming from me.
When a manchild spoof of Superman (Prime) has a better character arc than Supergirl, while having a similar tragedy & origin parallel to hers, and far less material given to actually be a character vs a mascot, a caricature.
He's leagues more insufferable yet somehow has a more staple cult presence & nuance (and i use that word lightly because he is a caricature) than she ever did but she's the one that keeps getting chances, because of relation, not depth or global significance; Kara needs a rework, badly.
It has less to do with feminism & the actress, and everything to do with what you're adapting. Avatar The Last Airbender was plenty feminist, and that didn't stop it from owning.
2:09 There's a difference between scorning an audience that could have supported, or a movie of a character that has a fanbase, but no audience or meaningful significance in the first place. There's a difference.
Can't blame it all on politics or optics, not all of it; the material is just dry af.
If they made an adaptation of Kara's DC Nuclear Winter story, people would love it. Why? Because it's a moving story. I'd sooner recommend people read that than Woman of Tomorrow.
They should fire whoever edited that crap, It's like they stitched it together to make Kara everything but interesting or cool.
A typical sci-fi adventure flick you'd see from novel adaptation like Divergent or something, forgettable. The point of the trailer is make you feel: "I have to SEE this!"
What the hell is marketing even doing?
I'm probably one of the most consistent supergirl criticizers on the internet and even I have to admit she deserved better than that, what the fuck.
The music was dogshit too, she doesn't even get a cool thematic score, no original theme to define the sound of her character like Williams did for Supes, nah she gets some wonky song.
Which tells me the OST is likely going to be full of songs and mediocre stock Hollywood.
I hate the teen graphic novel vibe, not enough of the villains & the one that I wanted to see, he's in it for like 2 seconds which tells me he's not going to prominent enough in the film in a way to make it one of the best CBM of this decade or push Kara to proper limits in development or him serving to be her foil--
(because LOBO is also the last of his people, but for different reasons. Will the writers explore this dichotomy to exploit a proper arc for Kara Bore-El? Calling it now, probably not)
The plot as is looks as boring as Kara looks, Krypto literally pissing on Superman (I hate that damn dog).
And it doesn't even exploit the ONE thing people claim is so interesting about her (not rly tho) the trauma of seeing Krypton go poof, trauma of her memories. (SB-Prime did it better)
It's like the Trailer wasn't even trying. I didn't watch the SuperGunn trailers when they first dropped, I managed to watch the final trailer after i saw the movie twice, I didn't give a shit.
But I was excited to watch this trailer, pure curiosity. And this is it?
Superman sees the good in everyone, she sees the truth: the FUCK does that even mean!?
Dialogue was horrible edited movie-nese, gave me nothing to invest in the damn girl.
Since I didn't drop the Superman 25 review yet, I'll say it right now. I did NOT like that movie, saw it three times. It was a mess, a fun, goofy piece ah crap.
And because of that, I'm 1000% game for SUPERGIRLS Movie to be better, I cannot stand Supergirl as a concept but I am down for this to be a good movie but if the teaser was this dry, this film is in trouble.
Cause otherwise, and I say this often: If you're going to keep bumping Kara infront of the line, AHEAD of Starfire, Raven and Cassandra CAIN--- just to do nothing with her, why even use Supergirl in the first place.
At this point, after 65+ years and for me personally over 20+ watching over this character, THERE HAS to be a time where they accidentally do something right with her that'll genuinely redefine this box they keep her in, not that Self-help "find yourself" bullshit King's Woman of Mediocrity aka "Woman of Tomorrow" did.
I mean genuinely set the bar for how this character is written going forward, PLEASE for the luv of fuck.
Cassandra Cain can't get a fraction of the corporate shilling Kara gets, but what Kara gets in actual practice is the cruise control of fucks to give. Why even push her in the first place as if she's lore essential (she's not) but she's here, great, and the TRAILER is this dry?
I would've had Kara taking space ships apart, getting her ass kicked in intergalactic fight clubs, fighting warlords, throwing Asteroids: lightspeed feats we should be seeing from Superman.
LOBO breaking her bones and she has to outthink him in a rematch. Show her physically vulnerable because she almost loses her life.
If I directed this shit, Kara would be out there, I'd even go the In-Ze route and reveal she's not related to Superman, and by the end she becomes her own person, no suit, no cape, just Kara starting her own legacy, building a new krypton in another galaxy.
Would I dump all of that in the teaser? Fuck no, but the teaser would be leagues better than this shit.
This trailer read like they didn't even try dude.
again, they didn't even try dude. Business as usual.👏
mediocre/ forced/ entire existence trivializes the miraculous- touching impact of Kal surviving at all, so really-- thanks to her, the LACK of impact of him surviving at all.
(Because most of the Kryptonian villains/extras that survive either get incarcerated, die or killed or were explained to be in the Phantom Zone anyway, so Kara is the main constant that breaks the impact of the "Last Son of Krypton" being "THE LAST", because the way she survives in PC already trivializes Kal's survival once over before her existing at all trivializes his survival twice over)
And most people miss that because most don't truly get the point of Kal's connection to Krypton's memory specifically. And neither do DC writers apparently. Style over substance.
Writers were/ & are still terrified of taking chances with Kara Bore-El & even more allergic to committing to it; god forbid doing anything interesting with this NPC avi of a character. Thats the box she's been in for the past 20 years since Superman/Batman #8, as of 2025
At face value, you could write her off as an innocent/uninspired marketing gimmick, like in the 60s, which she still is somehow- but it's different when writers try to marry her into serious storytelling. Then it gets messier.
But Loeb inserted a unique element of grit in 2004 for her (not a brand new take btw, but the way he did it was fitting for a modernization) that if committed to: could've made Kara something special, tragic & even contradictory even, in a good way. The same opportunity My Adventures, New 52 , & others had.
Even then, Loeb made some mistakes, one of which is making her his cousin again. Fan-fic tier writing, insulting even.
Now she's a basic bih anime extra in My Adventures with Lois-Chan, as I predicted the day Episode 2 of Season 1 dropped.
I knew exactly what was going to happen when they announced Season 2 before Season 1 could get comfortable, these cats truly overestimate her importance in the Superman lore. She's a part of it, not essential to it.
Now, to be fair--- I didn't see the genocide angle coming, & yet it surprised me just as much as Horikoshi's good concepts inMy Hero Academia, meaning it works better as an aesthetic because that's all it amounts to.
And with that in mind-- I knew exactly what to expect: Solid concept, whack execution.
An edgy concept with wasted potential is as useful as a cup of purified water for someone drowning to death. Style over substance.
And before her trauma could be explored or tapped into, developed, milked even: we've moved on; before this version of Kara could finally maybe raise the goddamn bar for the Supergirl ARCHETYPE as a whole, this could've been it for her & all takes to come after her- but instead they did exactly what Supergirl writers do and that's backtrack, domesticate her & maintain status quo cause that's easier to manage, it's safe.
As if the mere prospect of the genocide alone was supposed to be enough; and never mind what a revelation like that would do to a person all at once, let alone long term- the reality that their body was repeatedly ventriloquized/violated for the cause of deaths of civilizations, WHAT?!
Before she could even properly process that, here comes Lois-Chan, James & the plot, just in time to ruin the scene and prevent introspective development.
These writers can't commit or cook anything. ADHD writing since season 1, in a rush to avoid making a competent story.
It amazes me how WB can sleep on goldmines like Cassie Cain & Starfire but Supergirl gets all these chances. She's likable, yes- yet the LEAST interesting of their heroines. Super-Nepotism.
people like the idea of kara, they love the novelty of a girl with the powers of Superman.
Novelty. This has been the case before the century turned, however: Wasted potential, that's the most consistent element about Supergirl since the beginning. Wasted potential / Mediocrity. And that element is represented consistently in this mid show.
"Honest Thoughts"?
Kara is garbage overall, but with good intentions. The end.
But this version of Kara Bore-El specifically is a Dollar Tree attempt (keyword: "attempt") at The Iron Giant, X-23, Winter Soldier, Zuko, Cassie Cain, or even Chase from Kamen Rider Drive or accurately? SON OF DARKSEID from Superman The Animated Series (which came BEFORE Loeb's Evil Kara take in 2004) because Kara is literally nothing without Superman.
(Kara In-Ze-- well rounded attempt, easy to follow without deep homework, not Kal's cousin, outsmarted Zod/ she's clever, some missed opportunity but decent enough; still knockoff but tolerable, solid)
So if it's solid, it's solid. This Kara is not one of them, a messy, tumblr fan-fic attempt at a Supergirl and it shows in both the execution to how she looks.
Could you get anymore uninspired?
Android 18 was no total victim, she was all in for being a menace until she was the one getting hunted (Cell), which was sweet karma. But Android 18 was 1-3 of public enemies and she was neither 2 nor 3. Why can't we get a Kara that just embraces not having to be a DLC Superman?
Why does she always have to be attached to this man & why does she always get thrown in universes where a Superman exists already, thus forever making her existence redundant, holy moly. I don't like the concept of this character let alone the character on mass, period, but even I have to question why DC keeps doing that to her in mainstream.
Why do they keep robbing her of significance?
And then they give her this little facial scar at the end of the season, ooooh she has a scar guys, really making the most of that "Adult Swim" brand lmfao.
Lightning Lad loses an entire arm in a kids show, but the best they can do here is a glorified tattoo. "Adult Swim" Cowards lol.
Otherwise, Kara consciously committing such crime because she knew what she was doing because of bad nurture vs Making it all Brainiac's doing-- takes the agency & accountability off of her (PREDICTABLE, I thought this was "ADULT SWIM", not KidsWB)
Which negates more intrigue she could've had, which is what ALWAYS happens to this character, because writers insist on PROTECTING her instead of writing her worth a crap through blisters.
Even Tom King couldn't pull it off
For him, yet another self-discovery re-tread because thats all Kara is worth nowadays, grips constantly where her place is or purpose; the best DC can do every 9-10 years is edge bait or Kara re-learning & Re- re learning again self-help "identity" themes, because she DOESN'T organically have one. Otherwise you wouldn't need to try that hard to justify a character that's almost 100 years old.
This is why she has always been Kara BORE-EL, and it bleeds into the show.
The show wants the money shot of Kara floating over burning city
it wants the tease of her being an obstacle, but not entirely an enemy (because then she's not a victim)
then it wants the tsundere kawaii "she's awkward & doesn't know how to be normal" moments to attract all the smooth brained monke's ready to adopt a new pet waifu; Cringe.
the show wants all of that without any of the consequence or work, when that baggage, that controversy is exactly what the writer NEEDED to exploit while the iron was hot- to make this Kara the best of them all, in just under 3 episodes, if not 1.
She could've been the best that Kara should've been since her debut in the revamp in 2004. But nope, "Style over substance." Modern Anime syndrome.
In the history books, this Kara gets points for edge (not unique, its been done already), just like her post-crisis version getting rimjobbed back in the day because Kara's more "angry" than Kal because of her memories of her home and that made her more interesting than him (Bullshit, no it didn't. If anything, that's actually Zod & Superboy-Prime. But nobody's tryna have that conversation)
Otherwise, unless they did something of substance with said edge (Red lantern arc/Daughter of Brainiac) +AND COMMITTED (which they didn't), the edge is actually a strike against her, cause all it did was just set her up for being put in a status quo box, yet again.
In her defense, she was seriously robbed here, because this show's writers specifically- constantly prioritize cheap /quick payoffs over development (this literary quirk of theirs agitated me since Season 1's premiere); The show successfully modernized her (yet again) & did her zero favors anyway (yet again), when this could've been the turning point for how Supergirl should be written across all her media & DC meta, if done right. It's Adult Swim, there's zero excuse for this.
Not enough commitment & drive to mold her into something believable----ESPECIALLY if they decided to go with GENOCIDE of all things....they didn't have to take it there but they did, now they don't wanna do the work in the season relevant to the matter THEY themselves chose to introduce. Sloppy, hence the series.
tl;dr As she is now is what she's always been, mid/redundant/wasted potential/forced/robbed/& forced
Too much protection & "not her fault" syndrome- to get anything interesting / or legitimate done.
2026: Status quo restored, she's a pet waifu DLC Superman; that's 90% of youtube comments, cause that's all she amounts too in the minds of the average common denimonator. Business as usual. Called it.
They’re trying to pull a X-23/Cassie Cain/Iron-Giant/ Son of Darkseid with this one.
First glance it looks like promise, but what’s going to make or break this decision is what they do after the fact.
Keywords: “-AFTER the fact”
What exactly are you going to do with the fact that she’s committed genocide?
And it’s very unlikely Brainiac wouldn’t just mindwipe her entirely, so that obedience mode she enters isn’t a mode, it’s her default state.
Why would he even allow her to keep anything close to a personality, that already doesn’t make any sense as it didn’t make sense when Supes got brainwashed in Legacy arc in TAS.
But this is Brainiac we’re talking about, if anyone has a method to wipe a persons mind clean it’s him.
See if they just have her become the usual stock Supertoken/supergirl, cape & all and just go about the script per canon/ mid/ usual then the backstory setup was a total waste and only served to just be edge bait, jangling keys and nothing more. Another waste of potential for this sinkhole of a character.
And if nothing is done further, there’d be no real purpose to it beside just showing Supergirl be edgy and provide the illusion that Kara is interesting. When being interesting comes from the track-record of actually DOING something with the set up not just the set up existing.
Now her wanting to be a hero would be a semi-sensible way for her to attempt to “do good” to make up for the wrongs buuuuut this is genocide, saving a cat out of a tree or putting away the same 3 villains isn’t going to even begin to make up for that shit.
So I sincerely doubt whatever they do after this is going to be anything close to an appropriate direction for what she did.
See with that said- there’s already brewing problems with this. And when I first saw it, I thought “Hm, okay, there’s potential here.”
Mainly because of how she reacted to the truth, which is the point of her emoting, to make you sympathize.
You feeling that way is the intended reaction on part of the show.
sidenote: I can’t stand Kara as a concept, I make ZERO attempts to hide that, and yes they did the bullshit cousin thing which annoys the shit out of me but they can still do something halfway decent here even if it’s mid per the show’s usual standard of writing.
Furthermore, even if the execution is shit, i’ll give the writers some credit here for introducing her with an (albeit lazy) attempt to make her somewhat interesting though (basically Young Justice S4 all over again), the best way they can give her intrigue is make her “evil” seemingly (always some mind control or conditioning, she’s never bad by choice, which defeats the possibility of her being interesting or engaging) and then turn her into an accessory after she is eventually/inevitably turned to the good side.
I don’t see why DC is so afraid of making Kara a legit Superman villain or taking risks with this character who desperately needs an overhaul.
Top 5 baddies, calculating, in charge, with a purpose. There’s nothing wrong with that, why the fuck does she always have to be a good guy?
When all that happens is she gets shrouded in the shadow of Superman anyway because despite the attempts of so many writers, she does not possess the impact, themes or narrative/symbolic legitimacy, she literally just exists.
And unlike Batman who can have many protege, Superman’s hook initially was being the last Krytonian. So not only does her existence null the impact of Kal’s survival in the first place but the world doesn’t need two Super-people, it’s just redundant.
The only reason why Conner gets a pass is he’s the clone gene-baby of Lex and Supes, thus nowhere near as powerful. And the fact that he’s not native to Krypton doesn’t in any way negate the impact of Kal’s survival narrative.
Back on the show, they really shouldn’t have made her his cousin, again.
That takes so much agency from her when her stake in the story is being Superman’s cousin like the canon, and not just a Kryptonian with her own stake that somehow survived, and she has her own name. Still a knockoff, still trivializes the original point of Kal’s surivial but that’s an improvement.
It’s why Kara In-Ze is a slight improvement that people don’t appreciate enough. Though there wasn’t enough done with her too.
The miraculous surviving cousin trope is bad fanfic and again it trivializes Clark surviving at all, hence why I hate Kara’s existence. But PLEASE stop using the cousin schtick, allow Kara to stand on her own two goddamn feet for once.
Otherwise, yet again my gripe specific to this show is I don’t think these writers are thinking this through. The one time they take advantage of the “Adult” in the Adult Swim and they overshot their shot with genocide.
I thought: “Oh? This might have potential for this version of the character.”
But then I thought, “Wait minute, they’re not going to revert her to a normal status quo & put her little ass in a cape and hero suit after showing her doing that shit are they?
-How the fuck is she going to integrate, when she’s technically an intergalactic war criminal?”
Now if you gave her legal immunity or some kind of galactic supervision fine, but one of the only legitimate ways to set that up is if Superman asked John or Hal to put in a word or pull strings with the Guardians but a seasoned Justice League (where that possibility would make sense) doesn’t even exist- so that prospect is completely null.
See this is what happens when you don’t think this shit through, and unfortunately this doesn’t get the excuse of being a “kids” show, and it really should be because it’s written like one, just not as good as better kids shows.
Because despite My Adventures clearly being written for 13 year old girls/Shoujo fans going through their shipper phase, this tripe is actually on adult swim- for some reason.
(ATLA is also leagues more mature in writing)
Point being: Just edgy backstory is setup, set up can create intrigue but what makes one interesting is what exactly do you do with it, where you take that is what makes a character, that’s the ONLY reason why Zuko works as a character, it’s the ONLY reason why MCU Tony Stark isn’t the worst character in the MCU, somehow.
She better have some serious issues from this beyond just curling up in space with the pouty sad anime girl face, mid.
Don’t want her to look too ugly with her bawling her eyes out, snot & shit, because you know-
it’s only GENOCIDE, right?
Really that broken up about it huh Kara?
See this is why I cannot stand this show. It’s so half assed. And the fact that S2 was lit before Episode 3 of Season 1 dropped is a disgrace before the show could earn the right to continue someone had the connection to get their brain baby 2 seasons before it could prove that it deserved to even finish season 1.
And then by sheer fucking luck Lois-Chan and James just HAPPENED to TP in front of her, are you fucking serious? LMFAO, that’s amateur webcomic levels of convenient.
This show apparently has not changed since I last dropped it like a bad habit. Holy shit.
To wrap this turd sandwich up,
Drug problem, feverish nightmares, violent hallucinations, some kind of serious brutal trauma. Because HELLO? ADULT SWIM, maybe use that to your advantage writers? Use it to your benefit with some serious storytelling, HELLO? Goofballs.
You wanted Kara here, just like I predicted since Season 1 Episode fucking 2 (Because DC/WB can’t get over their Kara boner and neglect to give other better lady characters in DC time to breathe)
Well now she’s here, now do something with her or keep doing what you’ve been doing and just set her up…aaand then she crashes and burns into obscurity. Like she’s been doing for the a past 30+ years.
I’d settle for her not becoming a “Superhero” and living her own life figuring how to cope with what she did, saving people on the side.
Or? For a better take if we skip tween shit and just debut her as a grownass woman like Smallville did to an extent.
Be like Victoria or Valora-El and have her be a Supe in a position of infrastructural status where she can make another brand of difference that isn’t just sloppy seconds of what Superman is already doing. ie. Being a redundant character in deed and name.
Anything less or to the contrary is cop-out, and yet another waste of potential, which is a classic fate for Supergirl.
If she killed a few people, okay still bad, but it’s doable, but multiple GENOCIDE?
I repeat: MULTIPLE GENOCIDE?!
Ohhhh buddy. These writers better hope they know what they’re doing pal. Not me hoping they know what they’re doing-
No THEY better hope THEY (guys/& gals/writers) know what they’re doing.
Cause this can easily go messy mode if they don’t treat this with the appropriate care and direction.
Jfc.
And yes, I have pitched many times to make her dark, but that was the make her Superman villain permanently, clearly that isn’t their agenda here.
The difference is, I would’ve had her be a recurring Top 5 Superman foe. Not some superpowered “uwu kawaii” girl next door gimmick who’s stake in the fandom is exactly that or just being a female superman DLC vs her actually being taken seriously for once in her history.
One can try to argue that her having memories of Krypton makes her pain & anger stemming from that sort of interesting, not really- her concept is the same as Superboy-Prime’s origin but for her: without everything that made him iconic- his mental issues, his very real, very realistic ramification of a teenager losing too much, too soon all at once. Intrigue, something was actually done with the fact that he was traumatized, and it wasn’t backtrack it was expanded upon for better and worse.
Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Superman-Prime
And he was manipulated on top of that, sort of like Kara is manipulated by Brainy here.
But it’s likely not going to lead anywhere beyond her siding with Clark-Kun and beating Brainiac, saturday morning kidz cartoon shit.
Point being: People like her profile because she looks appealing, a concept of a female superman, female Kryptonian is a nice thought. Female, that’s the gimmick.
She’s always had potential, but it’s always played safe or backtracked. Now we have her being a genocide puppet, which is a nice set up but the likely outcome is they’ll sweep it or go the usual Sueprgirl route despite what she did.
I sincerely hope they do NOT do that, that is the wrong move.
A lot of people (including me sometimes) don’t truly understand the gravity of genocide when they want to use it for a character’s narrative, it makes for a good hook I get it-especially when the character regrets it or is a villain like Omni-Man. Or as a premise.
But a lot of writers don’t want to commit to how big a deal that shit is in ramifications but want to flaunt it just for the sake of tugging heart strings when the character gets in their feels over it.
My charge is specifically: What are the ramifications for the character’s humanity, their mental state, them as a person, how they view themselves, will she want to end her own life over this?
That’s the kind of shit i’m talking that would make a viewer her seriously leagues beyond the majority of her other variants (including her canon) in terms of depth, beyond the female superman gimmick, beyond the nepotism factor that Kara owes her entire career to.
But again I doubt they have the balls to go that far, even though that’s exactly what they NEED to do given this is a situation involving a one-woman genocide.
That’s why Invincible Season 1 Episode 8 is so good, EP3 was more of a spectacle we didn’t think too much of Nolan wiping out that planet but when it happened to Earth, seeing that mother & daughter die, you feel that shit. It makes you feel how serious that shit is. When you watch reactions to the episode, people physically cringe are distraught by it. GOOD, that’s the right way to present it, because it’s not a joke.
My Adventures with Kara-Chan Reads like a “look, aren’t they so tortured? Are you sympathizing with the cute girl yet?”, nah man. You need to do a lot more than just show her cringing with “shocked anime girl” face:
(thats what she looked like, like she sent her term paper to the wrong email address “Nooooo, i couldn’t, i don’t remember”, Wow i’m really choked up about this along with you sister. Such a wooden performance, Iron Giant showed more emotion when he thought Hogarth died.)
How the fuck you get out acted/Emotioned by a goddamn Robot who managed to cry without shedding a tear.
Again, WB feels the absolute need to push this underwhelming nothing character over and over again just for her to meet the same brick wall because the general demo? Contrary to popular belief, doesn’t give a shit about Supertoken.
She works in concept, but she has zero staying power.
Most people like her because she’s an aesthetic, a gimmick, a checked box, like Mid-Morales. They look nice on paper, they’re a nice thought, they look great on design sheets. What they represent vs not what they are. Most People like what they are, than who they are. Not all, most.
But this attempt at Kara? Depending on what they do as of post Season 2 EP6, even if the aftermath is mid (and it likely will be mid) at least do something dynamic or risky with that set up, just tragic backstory isn’t enough.
Fact is, to wipe out that many people?
Writers better deliver on that shit & make her 2% the interesting/ complex character Azula was in terms of issues.
Because they’re doing this cutesy anime shit, the same shit they’ve done with Lois but with Kara it’s the strict tsundere who’s not privy to norms schtick.
So basically Starfire just more “hmph” frowny faces, it’s so goddamn annoying how hard they’re trying with this anime aesthetic bullshit but not trying hard enough with literally everywhere else that matters.
It’s amazing that that’s the main thing that’s consistent since Season 1 lmfao.
Not holding my breath, but we’ll see where they go with this latest attempt with Kara Bore-El.
Sidenote: Reiner wasn’t handled the best overall but him developing lite Schizophrenic symptoms out of guilt due to the many friends he betrayed to accomplish his mission was actually a sound decision, one of best in the story because that’s actually doing something with the guilt, now did Isayama commit to taking it to a fine conclusion, ofc not, but that was a good direction to go in that wasn’t expected. I’ll praise that much.
That wouldn’t be a bad direction for this version of Kara Bore-El, a believable ramification.
