always headcanoned this as the witch singing lullaby to her baby as she slowly descends into madness & agitation, until she takes her babies life with her bare- then bloody hands.
Which is why she cries for eternity, she's infected, but she hasn't forgotten what she did.
You startling her, is you disturbing her mourning her child, and if you persist; She'll kill you for it without hesitation.
