It's not an attack moreso it's a criticism of critics, the issue is it's taking away from their "review".
It's less about the show now and its more about complaining about complainers knowing it all when he's lecturing the reader about the critics like they know it all, like he knows how to properly watch a show or something..
If you have to spare the show a "charitable viewing", charity meaning hand-out, giving help, a freebie, then the show is handicapped. Thus it's not as good as he thinks it is, thus the recommendation communicated the exact opposite of what they intended.
They're saying everything while accomplishing nothing- and all they had to do was just review the show.
edit: thats a cropped image of their review, it's not the whole thing but he's a hypocrite because he criticizes critics for them having a false sense of authority then he follows with saying this:
"As an avid anime watcher, I promise you that TOG will end up being one of the most sophisticated shows in terms of world-building and plot"
So criticizing it based on experience: Shame on you
But preluding your case with as an "avid" viewer, thus insinuating credibility to praise it okay before you even see if it's good, thus like it before it proves it's worth before criticizing what you already can see.
Same old bullshit.
You're not allowed to hold anything accountable by the same standard that you're okay with other people praising it.
Hypocrites.
