"What are your honest thoughts about Kara Zor-El" (Same as the canon, Kara Bore-El is a redundant, but tragic waste of potential) - My Adventures with Lois-Chan

same as the canon:

mediocre/ forced/ entire existence trivializes the miraculous- touching impact of Kal surviving at all, so really-- thanks to her, the LACK of impact of him surviving at all.

(Because most of the Kryptonian villains/extras that survive either get incarcerated, die or killed or were explained to be in the Phantom Zone anyway, so Kara is the main constant that breaks the impact of the "Last Son of Krypton" being "THE LAST", because the way she survives in PC already trivializes Kal's survival once over before her existing at all trivializes his survival twice over)

And most people miss that because most don't truly get the point of Kal's connection to Krypton's memory specifically. And neither do DC writers apparently. Style over substance.

Writers were/ & are still terrified of taking chances with Kara Bore-El & even more allergic to committing to it; god forbid doing anything interesting with this NPC avi of a character. Thats the box she's been in for the past 20 years since Superman/Batman #8, as of 2025

At face value, you could write her off as an innocent/uninspired marketing gimmick, like in the 60s, which she still is somehow- but it's different when writers try to marry her into serious storytelling. Then it gets messier.

But Loeb inserted a unique element of grit in 2004 for her (not a brand new take btw, but the way he did it was fitting for a modernization) that if committed to: could've made Kara something special, tragic & even contradictory even, in a good way. The same opportunity My Adventures, New 52 , & others had.

Even then, Loeb made some mistakes, one of which is making her his cousin again. Fan-fic tier writing, insulting even.

Now she's a basic bih anime extra in My Adventures with Lois-Chan, as I predicted the day Episode 2 of Season 1 dropped.

I knew exactly what was going to happen when they announced Season 2 before Season 1 could get comfortable, these cats truly overestimate her importance in the Superman lore. She's a part of it, not essential to it.

Now, to be fair--- I didn't see the genocide angle coming, & yet it surprised me just as much as Horikoshi's good concepts in My Hero Academia, meaning it works better as an aesthetic because that's all it amounts to.

And with that in mind-- I knew exactly what to expect: Solid concept, whack execution.

An edgy concept with wasted potential is as useful as a cup of purified water for someone drowning to death. Style over substance.

• And before her trauma could be explored or tapped into, developed, milked even: we've moved on; before this version of Kara could finally maybe raise the goddamn bar for the Supergirl ARCHETYPE as a whole, this could've been it for her & all takes to come after her- but instead they did exactly what Supergirl writers do and that's backtrack, domesticate her & maintain status quo cause that's easier to manage, it's safe.

As if the mere prospect of the genocide alone was supposed to be enough; and never mind what a revelation like that would do to a person all at once, let alone long term- the reality that their body was repeatedly ventriloquized/violated for the cause of deaths of civilizations, WHAT?!

Before she could even properly process that, here comes Lois-Chan, James & the plot, just in time to ruin the scene and prevent introspective development.

These writers can't commit or cook anything. ADHD writing since season 1, in a rush to avoid making a competent story.

It amazes me how WB can sleep on goldmines like Cassie Cain & Starfire but Supergirl gets all these chances. She's likable, yes- yet the LEAST interesting of their heroines. Super-Nepotism.

• people like the idea of kara, they love the novelty of a girl with the powers of Superman.
• Novelty. This has been the case before the century turned, however: Wasted potential, that's the most consistent element about Supergirl since the beginning. Wasted potential / Mediocrity. And that element is represented consistently in this mid show.

"Honest Thoughts"?

Kara is garbage overall, but with good intentions. The end.

But this version of Kara Bore-El specifically is a Dollar Tree attempt (keyword: "attempt") at The Iron Giant, X-23, Winter Soldier, Zuko, Cassie Cain, or even Chase from Kamen Rider Drive or accurately? SON OF DARKSEID from Superman The Animated Series (which came BEFORE Loeb's Evil Kara take in 2004) because Kara is literally nothing without Superman.

(Kara In-Ze-- well rounded attempt, easy to follow without deep homework, not Kal's cousin, outsmarted Zod/ she's clever, some missed opportunity but decent enough; still knockoff but tolerable, solid)

So if it's solid, it's solid. This Kara is not one of them, a messy, tumblr fan-fic attempt at a Supergirl and it shows in both the execution to how she looks.

Could you get anymore uninspired?

Android 18 was no total victim, she was all in for being a menace until she was the one getting hunted (Cell), which was sweet karma. But Android 18 was 1-3 of public enemies and she was neither 2 nor 3. Why can't we get a Kara that just embraces not having to be a DLC Superman?

Why does she always have to be attached to this man & why does she always get thrown in universes where a Superman exists already, thus forever making her existence redundant, holy moly. I don't like the concept of this character let alone the character on mass, period, but even I have to question why DC keeps doing that to her in mainstream.

Why do they keep robbing her of significance?

And then they give her this little facial scar at the end of the season, ooooh she has a scar guys, really making the most of that "Adult Swim" brand lmfao.

Lightning Lad loses an entire arm in a kids show, but the best they can do here is a glorified tattoo. "Adult Swim" Cowards lol.

Otherwise, Kara consciously committing such crime because she knew what she was doing because of bad nurture vs Making it all Brainiac's doing-- takes the agency & accountability off of her (PREDICTABLE, I thought this was "ADULT SWIM", not KidsWB)

Which negates more intrigue she could've had, which is what ALWAYS happens to this character, because writers insist on PROTECTING her instead of writing her worth a crap through blisters.

Even Tom King couldn't pull it off

• For him, yet another self-discovery re-tread because thats all Kara is worth nowadays, grips constantly where her place is or purpose; the best DC can do every 9-10 years is edge bait or Kara re-learning & Re- re learning again self-help "identity" themes, because she DOESN'T organically have one. Otherwise you wouldn't need to try that hard to justify a character that's almost 100 years old.

This is why she has always been Kara BORE-EL, and it bleeds into the show.

• The show wants the money shot of Kara floating over burning city
• it wants the tease of her being an obstacle, but not entirely an enemy (because then she's not a victim)

then it wants the tsundere kawaii "she's awkward & doesn't know how to be normal" moments to attract all the smooth brained monke's ready to adopt a new pet waifu; Cringe.

• the show wants all of that without any of the consequence or work, when that baggage, that controversy is exactly what the writer NEEDED to exploit while the iron was hot- to make this Kara the best of them all, in just under 3 episodes, if not 1.
• She could've been the best that Kara should've been since her debut in the revamp in 2004. But nope, "Style over substance." Modern Anime syndrome.

In the history books, this Kara gets points for edge (not unique, its been done already), just like her post-crisis version getting rimjobbed back in the day because Kara's more "angry" than Kal because of her memories of her home and that made her more interesting than him (Bullshit, no it didn't. If anything, that's actually Zod & Superboy-Prime. But nobody's tryna have that conversation)

• Otherwise, unless they did something of substance with said edge (Red lantern arc/Daughter of Brainiac) +AND COMMITTED (which they didn't), the edge is actually a strike against her, cause all it did was just set her up for being put in a status quo box, yet again.

In her defense, she was seriously robbed here, because this show's writers specifically- constantly prioritize cheap /quick payoffs over development (this literary quirk of theirs agitated me since Season 1's premiere); The show successfully modernized her (yet again) & did her zero favors anyway (yet again), when this could've been the turning point for how Supergirl should be written across all her media & DC meta, if done right. It's Adult Swim, there's zero excuse for this.

Not enough commitment & drive to mold her into something believable----ESPECIALLY if they decided to go with GENOCIDE of all things....they didn't have to take it there but they did, now they don't wanna do the work in the season relevant to the matter THEY themselves chose to introduce. Sloppy, hence the series.

tl;dr As she is now is what she's always been, mid/redundant/wasted potential/forced/robbed/& forced

Too much protection & "not her fault" syndrome- to get anything interesting / or legitimate done.

 Captain America 4 was a mess, CA2 & Civil War crammed into one fusion, mess of a plot, laughable story, acting was horribly directed, pacing was trash, zero chemistry with the characters, cringe subtexts. Mid Captain.

 So was Deadpool & Panderine, watched it twice in one day. The story was beyond a mess, No Way Home's key jangling but times 100. Which means they're going to keep relying on fanservice to replace competent scripts because people keep eating this crap up out of sheer desperation for an ok movie like the good ol days.

Now having a good time ain't an issue, but we really need to stop giving gold medals to trash because it made us feel good about watching it and it wasn't woke.

DP3 was an absolute mess, just a montage of fanservice, Deadpool spelling everything out & going "Remember that, remember them, look look look" and yet another multiversal level threat because-- OKAY then.

Literally everything Logan was- is what DP3 isn't, a solid film. Which is ironic because they appointed themselves to using the corpse of Logan for a loud obnoxious spectacle. Fitting. So fitting. 

I'm game for F4 being passable, but CA4 & DP3, those might've been mediocre enough to not be complete dogshit, i'll give em that. But they were not good. 

As for box office, irrelevant. Endgame made a crap ton too and that was also a mess. Profit is not a measure of quality, it means the marketing brand did it's job to get asses in seats.

McDonalds is trash in terms of food quality & shelf life, but thats not going to stop people from buying it solely because it's familiar, hence brand.

Regarding the movies, doesn't mean all of it's bad, doesn't mean it's good either. Sometimes it's just ok, or mediocre enough to not be terrible.

Dianna Soriel is peak “Gundam Girl”

 

Queen of an entire race of moon people, she can improv the shit out of a speech without being preachy, and none of that Pop Singer shit like Lacus.

She sits proper, full of class, and so much composure. 

• She can feign ignorance in one breath, and command the room in a second. And it’s not cringe “girl boss“ energy, she’s a PROFESSIONAL. 
• It’s legitimate qualifications, you believe it she’s done this shit for a while as a career and is about it.

300+ Year old Queen that’s not above learning the joy of simply washing clothes lol, and will put a cap in your rump if you start rampaging in a mobile suit in her name.

She’s not having it:

Is something she says towards the end of the series, just before a battle, the finale battle. 

A very odd thing to just drop in the finale, but it’s little nuggets of character like that that puts her up there in the Gundam “character” list, not just the honorary female category, but Gundam characters period.

Now, i’m zero bullshit, the reason why she’s not as marketable among current day audiences as your Lunamaria, or Lacus, Nena, or Sayla. Is mainly exposure and sex appeal, let’s just get that out the way.

• Turn A Gundam is underrated, so it goes under the radar (Exposure)
• Dianna Soriel is too well written to be classified as a “waifu”, she’s not an infantilized idiot with a fat ass, and she’s not treated as such. (Sex appeal)
• Turn A Gundam has it’s moments of fanservice but it’s not My Sus Academia levels of Pedobear- it’s entirely context oriented and it doesn’t dwell on it. It passes, and we move on.

So she’s not a sex symbol in this franchise, and for the most part is not flaunted like a piece of meat, she’s written like a Ghibli Studios character. 

Is that enough reason for her to go unnoticed? 

Unfortunately yes, to an extent. I’m a straight male with working testosterone, i know the game. 

Just look at your top “anime girl” lists and count on five fingers how many of them:

1. Got that spot because they’re well written vs possessing some blatant form of sex appeal, despite being 2D with eyes the size of a respiratory organ
2. NOT a Shonen female character
3. Not from a mainstream anime that everybody rides because it’s mainstream 
4. Leads their own series
5. And contributes something legitimate to the situation beside being there or being hot

Cause i guaran-fucking-T you you won’t see Marlene Angel on that list, her anime has fanservice, however the anime itself is like a cult classic type situation.

People in this anime straight have sex, and the narrative function is like Attack on titan, end of the world, creatures run amok.

People are trying to feel alive in the moment because it could be their last time.

That’s the context, it’s called Blue Gender, brutal, fucked up, tragic. (First act’s the best, 2nd act drags and the 3rd pays for it but it’s something to experience, it’s a gem. The movie improve many problems I have with the series) I recommend it. 

You’re even less likely to see BALSA Yonsa on that list

And she’s a beast.

So because the anime is underrated and retro, and her sexual market value is not exploited-

No, she’s not going to get her due respect.

If she was treated like Makima is, she would also have stan group on Twitter compiling entire tweets dedicated to pointing out the anime itself featuring frames of her ass, chest, her in lingerie, the whole “woof” meme, lmfao.

• Writing 101: When your character is as transparent & hollow as a Ziploc bag, over compensate with sex, “that’s a neat trick”.

Can see it a mile away. Because at some point, writing wise, most people have done it, it’s definitely tempting, cause humans are sexual. And writing is freedom so you’d think, why not?

• However, the measure of a writer’s competence in this context, is choosing not to do that. 

Because giving a character depth takes more work & EFFORT vs letting your fandom project their libido onto the character because you want to misdirect the fact that she’s not much of a character. 

And her popularity is founded on that, longterm, she’ll fade into obscurity when the Makima or Akane Shinjou  is introduced.

Oh? You forgot about that weirdly “foot fetish-y” sexualized teenager that everybody was panting over not long ago? Well don’t worry about forgetting she ever existed, cause so did everyone else-

And that’s my point.

• Sex appeal by itself isn’t the issue, women are attractive, that’s not a sin. Active sexualization (especially of teenagers, cmon bruv) at the expense of presentation and characterization, is straight narrative laziness. Going out of your goddamn way is the issue.
• Laziness and wasted potential is the issue.

So Makima’s biggest contribution to the average normie is being a “Woman in a suit” aesthetic (Which i personally think is under-represented), but in the culture, that’s all the majority care about. Ass, cake, what can I upload to R34 this week.

Which is not surprising because a lot of Mangaka’s do not use their work as a proxy to share their storytelling prospects & ideas like competent writers as much as they should but instead insert their kinks to project onto millions like scumbags.

And it works, because the industry attracts and rewards that energy.

There’s no reason why Avatar The Last Airbender (one of the best shonen anime ever made, period) DID NOT come from Japan. Why? Because  Japan isn’t mature enough to handle it and nothing has changed.

And of course the characters in meta either succeed because the content is good, they're relevant for a few weeks cause they're cute, or get butt fucked in on the usual sites like danbooru for it then they're replaced by the next pinup girl.Trending today, forgotten tomorrow.

Dianna Soriel does not have this problem, because she’s not written to be an eroticized effigy to pander. She’s not a proxy, she’s a character. And that’s partly why she’s under the radar for the most part. Was was written perfect? Ofc not, no one is; I personally would’ve liked flashbacks of her time before, see her as a young queen figuring it out, who preceded her era- But that wasn’t the story, everything we got was through dialogue & subtle nuggets of lore. We were told more than shown, yet due to her not being “the” main character, how much was done with her and where she ended up: fairly impressed.

 

TL;DR Put respect on her name.

The Eternal Downfall of DarksydePhil

Phil is a class act control freak like many lolcows but VTubers will always be one of many toilet streaks of youtube, they are so awkward and corny they have ZERO room to speak on how long someone will last when there's only one DSP & their kind of channels are disposable by the quarter if not less. So all of these comments coming form most of em is hilarious & beyond ironic.

Namely that Vtuber Souls dude has some nerve talking about someone should be in a Museum  when his only appeal is a whack  anime avatar to compensate for talent or staying power, the guy was dated 24 hours after he debut his persona.  If he lasted til 2030 as a channel I'll be surprised.

VTubers always bow out and retire because nobody really cares about em or they run outta steam, they bring nothing to the table in terms of "content" cept some superficial aesthetic to attract a very specific sect of cockroaches and somehow DSP is still here without needing any of that.  (at least  for the luv of god i hope he never tries it out, jfc the trolls would have a field day)

The best part of the VTuber section here was the Minecraft connections, that was decent, it pained me to have to listen to them do their little mannerisms & look at their avi's jerk around like damaged animatronics but the point of the clip was good, just everything after lingered on too long otherwise DSP got issues but you gotta be kidding me with this.

Worst part of the video easily. Can't be using them, THESE GUYS of all ppl to roast DSP when the very sight of these jokers is the joke & a visual indication of youtube's corrosion of what content is.

Like who are they to judge anything when  for most of them their entire career is soft-waifu simulator, get outta here with that.
